So my bf and I went out to downtown Seattle a few days ago and had some fun. We walked almost literally from one end of Seattle to the other. My legs still hurt! >.< First, we checked out all of his favorite little spots.

We started off at Deli because it's closest to where the ferry. It's a clothing store/boutique inside of an old deli. The interior is still set up like a Deli and the T-shirts are packaged like deli meats. Sadly we came too early. I took some pics but theey didn't turn out so well. here's a better one to start with. We then went to Gems. It's a sneaker shop within an old fashion-style candy shop. Now here's where cool become awesome; when you walk in it just looks like a little red candy shop with a counter and display case with candy. We walked in and asked the rather handsome and stylish man behind the counter if he could please show us to the sneakers. He took a few steps left and opened the wall behind him. HE OPENED THE FUCKING WALL!
You can't see hinges or a seam or anything! Inside was a black room with illuminated ledges where the sneakers were and a dj booth. The room doubles as an art exhibit. Sadly, they didn't sell my boyfriend's shoe size (U.S. men's 15). Sorry, I didn't take pics! I'm pretty sure it's not allowed!

After recovering from the awesome we went to Jack Straw Filaments. Talk about stylish! The shop was very small and had only a few select items. Everything had a very Americana dandy feel. It was at the pinnacle of contemporary American street fashion. The gentleman shop owner was older and extremely stylish. He could have walked straight off of the Sartorialist and if not, the runway.
Sadly, everything was way out of our price range. I felt broke just breathing there. We walked away empty handed once again with nothing for my boyfriend but a broken heart because the knitted sweater he wanted was over $2,000. I didn't take pictures. Picture provided not my own. It's a little old and outdated. It looked different when I was there. Sorry.

We then walked a short distance to Tuuli. It's a cute little Finnish import store. They seriously had the most adorable felted fox and owl cell phone holders! Other than that it was just alright. Not breathtaking in any way. We decided not to buy anything.      I didn't take pics. Picture provided not my own.

Next up was Butch Blum. I felt positively under dressed as soon as I opened the door. Butch Blum's specialty is designer European clothing, though they do have a few items from elsewhere. It was very, VERY GQ. My boyfriend cried a little inside as he looked at the prices on the clothing that actually had price tags.
The clothes were pretty amazing. I remember seeing mostly Armani. From what I remember all of their suits are Armani. I also saw some Yohji Yamamoto in the men's casual wear (read: not casual for most folks). We took a quick run through the upstairs women's section and I wondered how much weight I'd have to lose to fit into the two sizes they offered. European sizes 40 and 42. Btw- I don't know my European size. Needless to say, we bought nothing.
I couldn't find any pics online of the store but the blogger for the Seattle street fashion blog 21arrondissement.com (the best Seattle street fashion blog in my opinion) likes to take photos of stylish people in front of Butch Blum.

After torturing my boyfriend for a couple hours I decided on lunch. We went to the Pioneer Square Park Mall? (I don't know if that is the actual name or location of the mall. I'm totally guessing). Ahh...The Mall! My kind of place! Who was I fooling? I'm not some upper class trust fund hipster! In fact, I'm technically not even middle class but I get to that later. After my bf and I enjoyed some delicious noodles we went somewhere a bit more in our price range...

The colorful trinkets at dollar store prices, the blasting J-pop over the speakers, the many little packets of stickers, the obento accessories, the odd fake adult daiper in a package with drawings of drunk men dressed as babies, the hair accessories, HAIR ACCESSORIES, HAIR ACCESSORIES!!!!!
Best of all, my splurge only put me back about $25!

My haul. Also, YAAAAAAAAY! Moko Moko scrunchies! Finally!  I'm going to make bows with the origami papers. I'll figure out what to do with the stickers later. I was looking of Katakana stickers so I could put my name on my DS but I guess I was dreaming. Got Hirigana stickers instead (more my level anyway T_T).

You can check out close ups of the rest on my poupee girl!

I then ran over to Claire's and bought these lovelies.

Super fluffy sparkly scarves and a knitted sparkly bow headband!

as with the Daiso haul, you can see close ups on my poupee girl.

Shopping Spree!!! Part2(the shitty part) coming soon!

Wow, those shops sound really cool. I wanna go maaaan! Sometimes it's so weird walking into stores where you can't afford the clothing but I'd like to go to see all the cool things and get ideas. Ahhh~~the Daiso!

I wish the store here would start carrying the yellow and blue moko mokos. If not, can you take an order or some for me? X3
Jan. 4th, 2010 10:44 pm (UTC)
Sure! Hopefully they'll have some when I go. I don't go to Seattle that often. My boyfriend and I don't drive (but I'll be going to driving school in two weeks!). The public transportation here sucks.
I plan to go to Seattle at least twice within this month, though. However, I found a website that sells them, though for a larger price than Daiso.

Sadly, they don't have the pastel blue one T_T
Jan. 4th, 2010 10:48 pm (UTC)
Oh man, I hate paying for fancy pocket's prices XD Thanks though!
Jan. 4th, 2010 11:13 pm (UTC)
Sorry. I understand. They are way overpriced. I'll buy some next time I go to Daiso just in case you don't have some by then.
Jan. 4th, 2010 11:14 pm (UTC)
Aww you don't have to! I'll just search here, okay?
Jan. 5th, 2010 04:49 am (UTC)
Alright. but tell me if you don't have luck, ok? It's really no problem for me. ^_^ btw- I really like the bow headbands you recently posted up on Poupeegirl. They are so cute! Where are they from?

Wow that Deli store layout sounds really neat.
Also, cute accessories! I really like that type of hair clip you got. I have a metal one in pink... somewhere. ._.
Thanks for sharing <3

Thank you so much! I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to reply. I've been anti-social lately and I feel really bad about it! I like those clips too! They are good for putting my bangs to the side.
Mar. 27th, 2010 07:46 am (UTC)
*Late comment* but zomg fluffy cuteness! I wish I could reach a Daiso! I've been looking everywhere for those cute moko moko scrunchies!
Ooh and that candy/secret sneaker shop sounds wicked awesome!
Hey, and we have the same vintage rainbow sheets! I'm planning to make a dress and skirt or two out of mine since they're too big for my bed! :D
Mar. 27th, 2010 08:08 am (UTC)
I love em too! I know you can get moko moko scrunchies online but they are expensive!
That's awesome that we have the same sheets! Actually, mine are pillow cases. Together we have a set! lol.
I found mine at goodwill.
What's funny is that I plan to eventually take my pillowcases apart and make a skirt too! Great minds think alike, eh?
Yeah, Jems was super cool. None of the shoes really caught my eye that much, though.
I just loved the atmosphere!

b.t.w.- I was looking at your journal and I noticed all of the adorable cat stuff! I LOVE cats! In fact, I think I live for cats. Everyone's been calling me Kitty for almost 10 years because of it.
I don't mind. =^.^=
Mar. 27th, 2010 11:06 pm (UTC)
Great minds do think alike! I'd love to see your work when you're done! ♥

Noticed my cat obsession, eh? Heard of "raised by wolves"? Well, I'm the cat version of that! I love all animals, but cats are so special to me - they are the epitome of cuteness! Do you have a kitty? I have one little monster at the moment - should have uploaded pictures, but I'll admit I'm a lazy blogger! ;D
Mar. 28th, 2010 05:25 pm (UTC)
I really do feel the same way! There is literally not a single cat in the world that is not adorable. I am generally an animal lover, though...Except for slugs. I absolutely detest slugs. I am completely phobic of them, and I mean it.
Anyhoo... I do have a Kitty! Her name is Princess Poptart (yes, "poptart" as one word) and she's a two year old tabby. She's petite and has a chubby little face. She also has really short legs.
She's not only adorable. She's also vicious. No matter how hard I try to stop her, she keeps killing baby bunnies T_T. She's really depressed as just an indoor cat so I didn't want to keep her indoors all the time.
Unfortunately, She lives with my mom in Kansas at the moment and I'm in Washington state. I live here with no kitties. But that's okay. There's only like one million giant banana slugs here to keep me company. The best part is that I don't have a car so I have to walk everywhere! Needless to stay, I don't get out much this time of year. >.<
Rant over...Sorry. lol.
I'd love to see pictures of your monstrous kitty!
Mar. 28th, 2010 09:01 pm (UTC)
I'll admit that I tend to place bugs or bug-like things in a separate category from animals. I'm not phobic of slugs, but I'm terribly scared of bees, wasps, spiders - and the worst, cockroaches! Especially the flying kind! Eeek!
Your kitty has such an adorable name! I love it! Mmm...poptarts.
I'd love to see pics of her! I'll upload some of my kitty to my journal. She's so cute, but also so vicious. She isn't much of a hunter...except of humans. She's calmed down quite a bit since I got her (she's barely a year old), but she still has these moments when she'll try to tear me a new hole! I'm pretty sure she wasn't properly socialized as a kitten, and may be an orphan. I still love her, even though she's a psycho - can't help it - she's a kitty, after all!
I also volunteer at a local no-kill shelter because there can never be enough kitty time. Never. :D
I recommend it to you for your kitty separation pains, although I know as someone who is also car-less, that it's often hard to get to places...especially without encountering bug-like scary creatures! ;D
Mar. 28th, 2010 11:58 pm (UTC)
I once had a human-hunting kitty too. It could very well be that she was alone before you adopted her. Since she's so young, she might learn some social skills over time.
Princess Poptart was very shy and skiddish until very recently. My mom told me that just out of the blue she became very cuddly and affectionate. It's strange how that happens.
Also, I'm flattered you like her name. I name all my animals after food and their names all start with a title. For example, I had two ferrets named MC Cupcake (as in emcee) and Mr. Marshmallow.
I've thought about volunteering at a shelter as well! However, there are not any no-kill shelters that I know of nearby. I don't think I'd be able to work at one that uses euthanasia.
One of my favorite past times is looking at photos of kitties from Petfinder. It bugs my boyfriend, though because I usually go crying to him for a kitty afterward. He doesn't want a cat because we'll have to buy meat to feed it, which puts us in an ethical conundrum because we're vegetarian.
And about bugs, they all scare me, really. There is not a single insect in the world that I can touch. I find gastropods to be much more frightening, though. I have panic attacks if I'm near any, especially slugs.

You are so right about kitty time, though! There can never, ever, EVER be enough Kitty Time!
Mar. 29th, 2010 02:05 am (UTC)
She's coming around slowly, but whatever happened to her when she was tiny definitely gave her trust issues and made her scared like Princess Poptart was. Now she trusts and loves me, but she's got "the attitude" - which I have to read very carefully lest harm come to me!
I love how you name your pets! Literally so sweet! I've always wanted a ferret - they're like elongated hyper kitties! - but, as you know, kitties enjoy killing things smaller than themselves, and there was the small problem of stupid zoning laws. I did have an adorable rat named Twitchy for a small time in-between having kitties.
I agree completely that I couldn't work at a kill shelter. I'm completely against euthanasia and think it's cruel and barbaric, despite their claims that it's "humane".
I also annoy my guy with my cries for more kitties! I go to the shelter and fall in love over and over again - I can't help it! I'm so going to end up as a crazy old cat lady! XD
I sympathize with your vegetarianism problem - I'm also trying to become vegetarian, but it's slow for me because I'm anemic and have special nutrition needs. I hate meat though. I've never liked it, even as a kid. My mom told me as a baby I'd always cry for my veggie and fruit mush, but I'd spit out anything with meat! I can't fault kitties for eating meat, though, since they're just born that way and don't have a choice like we do. However, once I saw a "How it's made" show that showed cat food being made...without meat!! I wonder if it really is nourishing enough, but I can't seem to find it in the states (saw it in Canada when I was living there).
And about the bugs - there's only a couple of kinds I can stand: butterflies and ladybugs (although only the grown-ups, since the larvae look like they're from some alien horror film!).
Mar. 30th, 2010 12:43 am (UTC)
Lol! I can't see any kitties not loving you!
Ferrets are very cat like. I do think of them as an elongated cross between a cat and a dog. The get so excited when they see you come home, they do a little "dance". They jump side to side and make little clicking noises. They also love to lick! However, I wasn't living in a house very appropriate for ferrets. You have to be very careful that there are not any spaces for them to get stuck in or high places (they don't have a fear of heights).
I was never huge into meant either. I only liked chicken, so becoming vegetarian wasn't too hard. Luckily I don't have a problem with anemia. I was vegan for several months but it was too hard to keep up. I also had a problem with soy shock. However, lately I've been discouraged about staying vegetarian. I became vegetarian about 4 years ago when I saw PETA's "Meet Your Meat", so I'll always have this association with animal rights and PETA. Well, PETA has really been making me mad lately, so it's been hard.
As far as veggie cat food, I heard it's not really healthy since cats are carnivores. However veggie dog food is healthy since they are omnivores. There's a dog food place here in town that sells veggie dog food.
Lol. Ladybug larvae are scary!
Mar. 30th, 2010 04:49 am (UTC)
Aww, thank you! :::blushes:::
OMG! They do a dance?! How adorable!! I'd like to work for the local Petco just because they have ferrets...but maybe I'd end up playing with them instead of working. ;D I'd love to see pics of your furries if you have some! ♥
I'm not a fan of veganism because it seems to require too much soy, the production of which destroys a tremendous amount of natural ecosystems, including rainforest. However, I always buy eggs and milk from free-range, organic farms. May I ask what PETA is up to lately that's got you upset? I'm not a huge fan of theirs because sometimes they use scare tactics.
Yeah, for the veggie cat food, I thought as much. I wish there was some way of simulating meat for our kitties, but that's probably a long way off. If I had a dog I'd definitely try the veggie food - and teach the pup to respect kitties! ;D
Mar. 31st, 2010 09:35 pm (UTC)
You made a good point about soy. I eat alot less soy than I used to because it bothers my digestive system but deforestation is a much better reason not to. I think there is no problem in buying eggs and milk if they are from free-range, organic farms.

As for PETA, their scare tactics is one, but I also believe they throw other causes under the bus. Many of their campaigns are very sexist and racist. I feel that the same attitude that causes people to lose respect for other human beings, causes a lost in respect for animals and nature too.
Also in 2005 PETA euthanized 91% of the animals they picked up, many of them strays. They could have worked with or set up an adoption agency. Some PETA staffers were also charged with animal cruelty for dumping a large bag of dead kittens into a dumpster that they picked up from a shelter hours earlier.
The whole reason Ingrid Newkirk started PETA was because she found out that some kittens she just brought to an animal shelter were euthanized.
Lastly, I feel that their choices in spokespeople are weak. For example, Pamela Anderson. She admits to using botox. Because botox is so dangerous, varying dosages must be injected into rats, with every shipment. All the rats are either paralyzed or they die.
I just feel that PETA cares more about how their spokespeople look and their celebrity than their stance on animal rights. Many of them having nothing to do with animal rights. All you have to do to be a PETA spokesperson is be somewhat famous and say that you like animals. Who doesn't?
Sorry. I'm ranting... I mean, I think their undercover investigations are very important. For example, their crackdown last year on Hormel's unbelievable abuse of pigs. However, with everything else PETA does, I think they do more harm than good. There are other animal rights organizations that are lesser known, but more compassionate.
I bet eventually they will come out with veggie food for kitties that is nutritionally complete. If not, they will at least come out with kitty food that is free-range. They may already have some. Likely it's more expensive than just buying free-range meat, though.
I hope I didn't scare you off with my rant against PETA! IF you disagree with me, I don't mind. I'm really very open minded and don't let such little differences in political views get in the way. My boyfriend is straight edge and I'm for decriminalization of cannabis. In fact, my family works in the legal cannabis trade in Cali. I can look past the differences. lol.
Apr. 1st, 2010 02:11 am (UTC)
Woah! I didn't know they were pulling such crap! That's so wrong. How could they euthanize at all - but moreover at that rate?!? I've seen a lot of shit, but people still surprise me sometimes. I'm completely and totally against euthanasia. The argument people give that it's more humane to do so is a load of bull. Every time I ask them "Then why don't we do that to humans?" and "Would you do that to your mother?" My mom had cancer, and had it turned out that it was terminal, she would have suffered horribly at the end of her life - but I would never, ever have her euthanized! Most people are the same when they actually think about it, but they've convinced themselves that it's somehow okay with animals. All living things want to live - no matter how much we're hurting or how miserable our lives are. The only cases that differ are due to chemical imbalances or simply loneliness. Even worse than euthanasia for "humane" reasons is euthanasia simply because they don't know what to do with them! I can't stand it! It makes no sense to me! Particularly with cats - why the hell can't we have feral colonies like they have in the rest of the world?! Cats are not dangerous to anyone, plus they reduce disease transmission by keeping the population of rodents under control. It's the dumbest, cruelest thing to kill perfectly healthy animals.
I completely agree that discrimination is one and the same, animals or humans. Some people feel the need to identify those who are different from them as beneath them. Animals barely have rights because our society has identified them as separate, which always translates to unequal. I welcome the day when these prejudices will disappear.
I also agree that Pamela Anderson is an abysmal choice for a spokesperson. Not only for the reason you stated, but because she's not exactly the type to get people's respect, nor does she come across as the knowledgeable type about this or any subject. I also prefer the smaller organizations. I'm an environmentalist, but I pretty much hate Greenpeace because they've largely become a lobbyist group. Since I view the lobbying process as government-sanctioned corruption, that's not cool with me. Now you've convinced me not just to dislike PETA, but to hate it.
And don't worry about ranting...I enjoy ranting...and regularly engage in it! ;D I'm going to friend you back, since you're not the type to have a heart attack because someone disagrees with you - which is really cool. ♥
About cannabis - I'm not into any psychotropics myself, nor do I even drink alcohol for the simple reason that I dislike the idea of losing my faculties, but I don't judge people for doing it as long as they don't do something like driving under the influence or beating their wives. Problem is, so many people lack the responsibility to use pot in a safe way - so I'm not for total legalization because I think many people would just use it as another kind of drunk. I think medical marijuana should be legal, since it really does help a lot of people, but I'd also like to see it refined into a form that would not require the taker to experience psychotropic effects. However, I'm not the fascist type, so I'm completely cool with the idea you might disagree with me! :D
Apr. 4th, 2010 02:07 am (UTC)
Sorry I've been so lazy T_T
I had a bit of an internet break for a couple days and I'm sorry I didn't reply to your comments first!
Yeah. PETA sucks. You're right, smaller organizations really are the way to go.
As far as your views on psychotropic drugs, you make a good argument. That's a problem I have with it too. In fact, one of my worst fears is being hit by a drunk driver, especially since I'm just learning how to drive.
The only reason why I think cannabis should be decriminalized is because of all the tax money that goes towards keeping people in jail and prison for ownership of marijuana. There are so many people smoking pot, there's really no way to control it.
If it is legalized in the US (which can very well happen), I think it should be treated like it is in Canada (when it is legal). There should be strict regulations on how much someone can own, to take away power from drug dealers and to make sure that marijuana trade won't become another tobacco industry. I also think there should be laws against driving and using machinery under the influence.
I myself, do not smoke pot. I used to for quite a while but quitting any and all drugs was an agreement that I had to make with my boyfriend to start a relationship with him. None of this was much of a problem since all I did was smoke cigarettes (which I know was a bad idea), pot, and occasionally drank a very small amount of alcohol.
I'm definitely not a fascist either. I don't even really think of myself as being moralistic. There are things that upset me quite a bit but I try not to judge people. I know I used to be very ignorant and still am quite ignorant. I'm in no position to judge.

Re: Sorry I've been so lazy T_T
No problem! I tend to drop off the face of the earth internet-wise every once in a while. ;D
I completely agree that there are way too many tax dollars being wasted in punishing people for possession. In fact, it's one of my ultra-top pet peeves that murderers and rapists are set free because our jails are full of drug offenders. Even the worst drug dealer isn't nearly as dangerous as a convicted murderer, in my book (unless he/she happens to be both!). I think it could easily be solved by treating drug offenses as minor crimes that would be punishable by exceedingly high fines. The government is in desperate need of revenue, and that's a great way to get it, while saving our prisons for truly dangerous criminals.
I've never done any drugs of any kind because I know I have an addictive personality, which would make me an easy addict. It's really great that your boyfriend got you to stop smoking - now THAT's an evil drug. I'm practically allergic to cigarette smoke - mostly I hate the idea that 2nd hand smoke is even more deadly than 1st hand. If there was a way that smokers could enjoy their cigarettes without endangering anyone else - well, then whatever floats yer boat! Otherwise, I kind of take it personally. Being a total pot head is probably better for one's health than smoking casually! XD So I'm really glad you kicked it - you and your family will be so much healthier for it! ♥
And boo fascists! I try not to judge people too. My philosophy is that if you're not hurting anyone else, do as you wish. However, I definitely get annoyed if people start to infringe on others rights. On the other hand, I know my education worked in that I feel a lot more stupid than I did when I began - knowing more means I'm aware that there's so much more to learn.

Re: Sorry I've been so lazy T_T
I could not agree more about crowding in prisons. It seems so unjust. In fact, there are thousands of rape kits all over the U.S., especially L.A. that are simply not being tested. They don't even put in the effort. I also know that they put a lot less into catching a murderer if the victims are poor, gay, trans, and/or not Caucasian.
It's very good that you are self aware enough to know you can get addicted. It's also best to just not do any drugs too.
Cigarettes are terrible. The closest thing I can think of to a smokeless cigarette is an electronic "cigarette" that administers water vapor laced with pure nicotine. When you exhale all that comes out is water vapor. I think the nicotine goes straight to your bloodstream. My brother used one for a while.
Also, in my opinion, your philosophy is the best one to live by. I try to live by it.

Re: Sorry I've been so lazy T_T
Completely agree. In a lot of poor, minority neighborhoods, the cops don't even come when you call 911. Yet, there are these drug raids where they end up throwing a bunch of people in jail because they were in possession of pot. Law enforcement often seems to have priorities completely messed up.
I read that those electronic cigarettes can be even worse than normal cigarettes, which disappointed me because when one's completely addicted, it really would be nice to not endanger one's family too. I hope they'll improve the technology.
I'm really glad you're living a healthier lifestyle, and I really applaud you for quitting. I know that stuff's hard to kick.

Re: Sorry I've been so lazy T_T
That's really bad about those electronic cigarettes! I'm glad my brother stopped smoking them.
Thank you. I'm glad I quit too.
